About Acorns and Oaks

In early June of 2012 there was a 4-day retreat outside of Colorado Springs where Morgan Snyder (http://www.thethirtiesdecade.com) invited about 60 men to come and share in a powerful experience and the fruit of many years of his labor - an examination of what the 'thirties decade' is about in a man's life.

The thoughts shared were both deeply countercultural and deeply restorative...but one thing the material was not, was shallow. Nor was it to be taken lightly. Morgan was challenging men to take up a radically different lifestyle and frame of mind. If taken at his word, he suggested some ideas that could require some major shifts in a man's life.

This blog is being created to provide a place for a small handful of men who have walked alongside Morgan at a little distance to explore, debate, perhaps refute some of the thoughts shared in that weekend.

The name of the blog comes for Isaiah 61, the passage Jesus quotes when he starts his public ministry. In it, we learn that 'the broken-hearted' Jesus comes to save will in time  '...be called Oaks of Righteousness.' and indeed it's the goal of what Morgan discussed. But Oaks grown from acorns and healthy, likely-to-thrive acorns fall from the mature, well-established oaks from the previous generation.
